Like the rest of the world the Solomon Islands face environmental challenges due to climate change, despite being among the smallest carbon emitting regions. Rising sea levels and regular storms are some examples of the effects being faced in this area. The Solomons is also a poor country, with limited job opportunities in rural areas. As a result many rural dwellers migrate to the capital, Honiara, where they often end up with no other option but to living in slums, with restricted access to sufficient facilities. One way to address these challenges is by supporting sustainable economic development on the Solomons.
